Small actions, added together
HEG is run entirely by volunteers, and every project here exists because someone in the village decided to do something. There are more ways to help than writing a cheque.
Give your time
Time is the thing HEG runs on. From an hour once to a regular weekly slot, every contribution keeps a session going — and there's no experience required.
Volunteer with usLeave a patch to grow
Mow less. Leave a verge, a corner of the lawn or one small patch unmown and see what arrives. Small spaces across the village add up to one much bigger Space for Wildlife.
About Space for WildlifeShare a book
Pass on a good-quality book to the Orchard Lane Book Swap and give it another life. Books only please — our Guardians are volunteers and have to clear away anything else.
About the Book SwapDonate food or supplies
The Community Larder works with rescued surplus food through FareShare and SOFEA. If you have food, supplies or transport to offer, get in touch and we will tell you what is needed this week.
Get in touchSpread the word
Tell a neighbour about the Monday café, share a Facebook post, or bring someone along to a growing session. Most people who join HEG came because somebody asked them.

Grant funders, local businesses and community groups have helped us buy equipment, run workshops and keep our spaces warm and welcoming. If you would like to support HEG, we would love to hear from you.
Talk to us about fundingEvery grant creates something bigger
Funding doesn’t simply buy equipment or pay for an activity. It enables volunteers to do more — a shared meal at the Community Café, food saved from waste, vegetables grown at HEG Grows, a new wildlife habitat, a workshop for a young person, or simply a welcoming place where somebody can feel part of their community.
