Register with SOFEAThe HEG Community Larder is a simple idea with a big impact: good food should be eaten, not wasted.
Every week, we collect surplus food that might otherwise go to waste and make it available to people across our community. The Larder is open to everyone — it's about reducing food waste, sharing what we have and making good food go further.
Our volunteers collect and organise surplus food supplied through our food redistribution partners. What's available changes every week depending on what has been rescued — which is part of the Larder experience! You might find fresh fruit and vegetables, bakery items, store cupboard essentials and other surplus produce.
By using the Community Larder, you're not only taking home useful food — you're helping prevent perfectly edible food from becoming waste.
The Community Larder is also about connection and community. Our Monday sessions run alongside the HEG Community Café, creating a welcoming place where people can collect food, have a cuppa or some lunch, meet neighbours and spend a little time together.
There's no judgement and no stigma. Everyone is welcome.
Through rescuing and redistributing surplus food, thanks to FareShare and SOFEA, we are preventing tonnes of good food from going to waste, helping household budgets go a little further, encouraging sharing and reuse, bringing people together, and showing how small, practical local action can make a very real difference.
