Books only, please
To help our volunteers keep the Book Swap clean, tidy and welcoming, please only donate books in good, reusable condition. Please do not leave magazines, toys, clothes, electrical or tech items, household goods or general rubbish — our Guardians are volunteers, and anything else left behind has to be sorted and taken away by them.
The Orchard Lane Book Swap is a simple community idea: give good books another life and make reading freely available to everyone.
Now part of the Hendreds Environment Group family of community projects, our former bus stop has been transformed into a little library filled with books to discover, borrow, enjoy and share.
There's no membership, no charge and no need to register. Simply pop in, browse the shelves and take a book that catches your eye.
Our shelves are constantly changing, with books for all ages and interests — children's books and early readers, fiction, thrillers and crime, autobiographies and biographies, history and non-fiction, cookery and lifestyle, educational books, and teenage and young adult reads.
Take a book home, enjoy it and bring it back when you've finished — or replace it with another good-quality book for someone else to discover.
The Book Swap is looked after by a wonderful team of volunteer Book Swap Guardians, who regularly check the space, organise the shelves, remove damaged books and help keep everything welcoming and protected from the elements.
It's a small project with a lovely purpose: sharing resources, reducing waste, encouraging reading and creating another little point of connection within our community.
Whether you're searching for your next novel, something to read with the children or simply fancy browsing the shelves, come and have a look. You never quite know what you might find.
