HEG Grows is East Hendred's community growing project — a welcoming space where everyone can get involved, connect with nature and experience the simple joy of growing food together.

Based at the East Hendred Allotments, we're showing just how much can be achieved from a relatively small space. We grow fresh fruit, vegetables, salads and herbs for the HEG Community Café and to share with the wider community, helping locally grown food reach people who can enjoy and benefit from it.

But HEG Grows is about much more than the harvest.

Our plot is a place to learn, experiment and share skills. We sow seeds, nurture seedlings, grow under cover in our polytunnel, explore productive and climate-resilient growing techniques, and encourage people to take those ideas home to their own gardens, patios, balconies and windowsills.

We also make space for nature. Flowers and wildlife-friendly planting sit alongside our food crops, supporting bees, butterflies, birds and other pollinators and demonstrating that productive growing and biodiversity can thrive together.

You don't need to know anything about gardening to join HEG Grows. Come to plant, weed, water or harvest. Learn a new skill. Share one you already have. Bring the children along to discover where food comes from. Or simply make a cup of tea, sit on one of our benches, listen to the birds and enjoy being outdoors.

There's no pressure and no expectation — come as you are and do as much or as little as you like.

We're always looking for new volunteers and Growing Ambassadors to join our friendly team. Whether you can help regularly or only occasionally, every pair of hands helps us grow a little more.

Come and grow with us — no experience needed.
