Keeping HEG Grows growing through the hosepipe ban

The prolonged dry weather and hosepipe ban are having a real impact at HEG Grows. With vegetables, fruit and young plants needing regular watering, keeping everything alive and productive has become one of our biggest challenges this summer.

We're adapting wherever we can — conserving water, watering carefully by hand, mulching to retain moisture and looking at longer-term ways to make the plot more resilient to hotter, drier summers.

But extra watering helpers are always welcome! You don't need to be a gardener or commit to a regular volunteering session. If you can spare a little time to pick up a watering can and give some thirsty plants a drink, it all helps.

The food we grow supports our HEG Community Cafe and wider community, so every watering can really does make a difference. Many hands — and many watering cans — make lighter work.
